Recipe

Orange Rolls

Ingredients

List #1
1 1/2 C warm water
2 Packages active dry yeast
2 T sugar
1 1/2 C flour

List #2
1 Stick butter
1/2 C sugar
2 Tsp salt
3 Eggs or 6 egg yolks
1 T orange rind

Additional ingredients:
4-6 C flour

For Frosting:
Powdered sugar
Melted Butter
1/2 C orange juice
Orange rind (to taste)

Directions

Please read entire recipe before beginning!

Mix ingredients from list #1 and leave for 20-30 minutes in a warm place.

Cream ingredients from list #2. Add the #1 flour mixture to the #2 mixture, and then add an additional 4-6 C flour. Knead and set for 1 hour.

Roll out dough to approx 16 x 24". Butter the middle third, fold one side over, and roll to seal edges. Butter the seal. Fold the remaining third over, and roll again to seal edges. Cut into 3/4" strips, and tie in knots or roll like snails. Let rise until doubled in size. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes.

Combine powdered sugar, melted butter, orange juice and rind. Drizzle on bread. Or almond flavoring and sliced almonds (browned) in icing are good for a change.

Nothing says "fall" like the smell of fresh baked bread. These delicious rolls are perfect with my Sherried Cheese Soup.
