Woman to Woman Radio

August 2011

Behind every great radio show there's a fantastic crew. Pictured are just a few of the Lutheran Hour Ministries staff responsible for the program's success. Eternal gratitude to Christy Bond [the Blonde!], my incredible Producer for the last 4 years for her insights and wisdom; to Brian Contestabile [with the whole cake on my last day of recording] who was my recording engineer for the last 10 years; to Sharmon Perschbacher [no cake, but smiling] for 17 years of promoting the show to stations; and to Mark Eischer, Executive Producer of the Lutheran Hour and "Woman to Woman," who invited me to join the outreach at LHM in 1993! It was my privilege to be part of this team God pulled together, with many more people to make it happen. One more proof that we're not in this alone!

In June I joined the part of my family who live in the United Kingdom. Some of our countryside wandering was done by rail. While I came back with many wonderful memories of those days, one has special meaning for me. It was a sign posted at every railroad terminal to help people avoid accidents getting on and off the train. The sign read: "Mind the Gap," that is, 'Be aware of and avoid falling into the space between the platform and the railway car.'

When Woman to Woman® was conceived in 1991, it was mainly because I'll do just about anything to spare someone pain and I knew I couldn't have gotten through some tough life situations without good counsel. It was also out of concern for where we were headed in our fervor to "find ourselves" as women. I was a junior high/middle school counselor when moms began to return to the workplace in droves. The worry about "latch key kids" spawned neighborhood watch signs in windows and angst over where to hide the key for kids when they got home. Women realized we could take it on, so bring it on!
