We dined at a favorite restaurant this week where the menus are written on tall chalkboards and placed next to your table. There's a large chalkboard listing adult meals and a smaller one for the children's menu. The owner cheerfully acknowledged the kids in our group who were settling in with paper and crayons. Then she shared an idea that hadn't worked too well: when she first opened, she decided to parallel the chalkboard theme with an idea to entertain kids. She gave them small lap-sized chalkboards with colored chalks. How cute was that? But you guessed it...chalk wound up everywhere -- on the tablecloths, the kid's clothes. What a mess!

When flying eight hours across the ocean to visit my son and his family, I plan what to say when I meet new friends and the inevitable question arises, "How was your trip over?" I know it's an ice-breaker, but it's a conversation starter that can only go so far, especially after my usual replies of, "Great trip! A bit bumpy over Iceland!" or "There was finally a movie I could watch!" The challenge becomes, what to say next? In the ten years I've been making the trip, I haven't improved much, wondering, where in the world do I go from here? The locals are thinking that, too! Fortunately, this summer's trip over should bring fairly easy conversation, thanks to the Royals. It will be fun to get personal perspectives on the wedding and the future of their Kingdom.
